Random Spectacular at the Fry is our exhibition throughout the season and promises an unusual mix of around 100 items, without a theme, but based on a random selection made by forty-five invitees from various aspects of the arts world including the visual arts, music, writing, design, and scholarship. All selectors have been invited to write a short piece explaining why they have chosen the particular work. Selectors include Iestyn Davies, Alex Jennings, Peter Brookes, Angie Lewin, Frances Spalding, David Gentleman, Maggi Hambling, and Oliver Soden. Selection has been made from the 3,500 items in the Collection, and the exhibition will include books, design, and artefacts from the lives of the artists represented in the Collection - scrapbooks, letters, sketchbooks, diaries and ephemera.

For the first time pieces from the growing collection of studio pottery will be on show including a rare pot by Charlotte Bawden (née Epton) working in the Leach and Cardew traditions, and work by the ground-breaking potter Dan Arbeid, who lived and worked in Wendens Ambo near Saffron Walden, while teaching at the Central School of Arts & Crafts. The exhibition is curated by Colin Wilkin and Iris Weaver.

To complement it will be another Journal in the St Judes Random Spectacular series designed by Brian Webb. This will be produced as a limited edition, and past experience with previous productions in this series is that they will quickly be purchased. It will be priced in the region of £20, with all the profits being generously donated to the Building Fund appeal.
